 Drops Next Week

samsung_galaxy_alpha_image_sammobile.jpg

Leaked photos of a new Samsung smartphone led to speculation Thursday that the company may release its latest product as early as next week.  According to Sam Mobile, a blog that has leaked Samsung smartphones before, the Galaxy Alpha could be unveiled on August 4.

The phone has a semi-metal design and a smaller screen than the Galaxy S5. It is said to fall under the mid-range smartphone space, not quite reaching the level of the high-end Galaxy S5.

The news comes at the heels of Samsung posting its first year-over-year drop in net profit in nearly three years for the second quarter.  Samsung said in an earnings call it would launch two new smartphones in the next six months to protect its lead in mobiles.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2

There has been a scarcity of information regarding the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 release date and specs, but recent FCC filing documents reveal elements that can bring the product closer to reality.
The certification highlights elements such as: dimensions and connectivity bands.
The presumed Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is expected to sport a 5.9-inch screen display and be LTE-capable.

Previous leaks also mentioned that the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with Adreno 360 GPU and speeds up to 1.2GHz.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is also predicted to sport 1280 x 720 screen resolution, 12MP rear-facing camera, 4.7MP front-facing camera, LED flash, 8GB internal memory, 2GB RAM and up to 64GB expandable memory.

It is also uncertain whether this model will get a release date in the United States, or only be available in Asia, but in case it reaches US soil, there is a strong possibility that it will be exclusive to AT&T.

The original Galaxy Mega sold for $499 and its successor might not depart too much from this wallet-friendly figure, given that Apple is predicted to release iPhone 6 which is certain to carry an expensive price tag.

Rumors suggest that Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will be unveiled before the third quarter of 2014 ends.
This happens amid a "time of crisis" for the South Korean tech titan.  Samsung is facing serious woes on company profits with a three-consecutive quarter decline that was mainly brought by weak sales performance of mid-range phones and chaos within leadership succession.

Its foray into wearable device with the launch of Samsung Gear is still at an early stage and will face tough competition as Apple is set to unwrap its iWatch lineup before the year ends.  If there is one thing that can pull Samsung out of further troubles – it would be a real deal innovation that consumers have not seen for quite awhile from the largest smartphone maker in the world.

Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat July Release Breakdown

Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat

 July Release Breakdown

Last month, the Android 4.4 KitKat update situation got extremely complicated thanks to a pair of new Android 4.4 KitKat updates from Google. In an effort to quell Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems, the company pushed out Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat, updates aimed at patching up issues left behind by the previous release.
Samsung has been pushing out the Android 4.4 KitKat update to its Galaxy-branded devices since the middle of January. Six months later and the company is still working to get Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates out to its flagship devices. With new details swirling, we take a look at the progress Samsung is making with its Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates.

While Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat have rolled out to a number of devices including the Moto X, Moto G, Sony Xperia Z1, and HTC One, some companies are holding back. One of those companies is Samsung, the largest Android manufacturer in the world and a company that continues to push out the aging Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to its users.

Throughout the month of July, Samsung has been pushing out new Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates to Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and even Samsung Galaxy S5 users. This despite the fact that Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat are out in the open and available on several Galaxy competitors.

It doesn't help that Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy Note 3 users have been complaining about a myriad of Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems either.

While Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat details remain MIA, we have seen a number of new Android 4.4.2 KitKat release details emerge in recent weeks and here, we take yet another detailed look at how Samsung’s Android 4.4 KitKat roll out is progressing, six months after the company first started rolling it out.

While we can’t present every single detail, there are hundreds of different devices in hundreds of different regions on hundreds of different carriers, this will provide a rough sketch of what’s going on in the world of Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat updates.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Samsung Galaxy Alpha

could be

limited edition

Samsung Galaxy Alpha
Samsung Galaxy Alpha
The metal bodied Samsung Galaxy Alpha could be another limited edition smartphone for the company.
Samsung has had a few smartphones in recent years that have launched as a limited edition, particularly just for the Korean market.
A new report suggest the metal bodied, super high-end version of the Samsung Galaxy S5, known as the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, could be yet another exclusive device.
The main metal phone case manufacturers are located in Taiwan and are mostly controlled by Apple to make iPhone models. These include Castek Holdings and Foxconn among others.
There are also no metal casing manufacturers in Korea itself for Samsung to get in on the action, so the report states that the electronics giant is going to try China for the Galaxy Alpha body.
However, there’s a bit of a problem with that, because the prominent Chinese metal casing manufacturers can’t produce more than 1 million cases a month, even combined.
Due to that, there’s a high chance Samsung could be forced to make the Samsung Galaxy Alpha a limited edition handset just for the Korean market.
Samsung’s already done the same with the curved Samsung Galaxy Round for Korea and the Samsung Galaxy J for Japanese consumers.
However, Samsung could still try and launch the device worldwide, as it might see it as a good alternative for the flagship Galaxy S5, albeit for customers with a higher budget.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is expected to arrive in August with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display running on an Exynos 5 octa-core processor.
Allegedly, the metal body will be just 6mm thick, making it an ultra slim smartphone. Hopefully it should come with a QHD resolution too to match the LG G3.

Samsung handset division managers return part of bonuses

Samsung managers

return part of bonuses

REUTERS/Tobias Schwarz/Files

SEOUL  - Nearly 200 managers at Samsung Electronics Co Ltd's mobile division have voluntarily returned a quarter of their first-half bonuses, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said, with the firm poised to post its worst quarterly profit in two years.

Samsung Electronics earlier this month announced operating profit guidance for April-June that was far below most analysts' forecasts. The world's biggest smartphone maker is facing slowing market growth and intensifying competition.

The decision to return some of the bonus was partly a gesture to demonstrate that managers are taking responsibility for the earnings decline, and partly a way to show that management will work harder, the source told Reuters on Friday, declining to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Such gestures are not uncommon in South Korea's corporate world, where senior employees of listed companies have been known to take similar steps when performance dips. The source did not give further details, though local media reports estimated that the value of the returned bonuses would likely exceed 3 billion won ($3.13 million).

A Samsung Electronics spokeswoman declined to comment.

Samsung's cash-cow smartphone business has been losing market share as Chinese rivals such as Xiaomi and Lenovo Group Ltd offer increasingly feature-rich phones at lower prices.

Meanwhile, a survey of 35 major global markets by researcher Counterpoint showed the flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone was outsold by Apple Inc's iPhone 5S in the month of May, suggesting that the device was not selling as well as hoped.

Samsung pointed to inventory buildup for its mid-to-low tier products as well as the strength of the South Korean won in its earnings guidance last week.

Samsung will disclose its full earnings for April-June on July 31.

The slate ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and an updated version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface that makes the tablet more user friendly. Samsung Galaxy S6

Samsung Galaxy S6

Rumored to be Available

 in January 2015

Samsung came up with their Galaxy S5 smartphone earlier this year and it has been quite successful too. However, rumor has it that the Korean brand, known for manufacturing some of the world’s greatest and most popular smartphone devices, is currently working on the S6.
Detailed reports of this smartphone and its capabilities are yet to be ascertained, even as fans around the globe have made sure that their demands are heard. Some of the most popular demands made by fans include a processor capable of tackling problems quickly and with greater efficiency, better battery life, crispier screen resolution and curved & flexible display.
The overall plastic build quality of the S5 should not be carried forward to the Samsung Galaxy S6, while we hope that the use of Graphene or Silicon is considered this time around. Samsung’s battery life has been under the scanner for quite a while too and they need to make some serious upgrades here, in order to retain customers.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Rumors
While the design idea behind their S5 was simple and clean, the Samsung Galaxy S6 should feature a larger screen, packed with higher resolution. We are expecting a 5.5 inch screen, packed with 441 ppi and 1080 pixel density. These figures however, are not official.
If you are from Canada or USA, you should expect this smartphone to be available at a store near you in January. If you are from China, India, UK, etc, you should get this device by February at most. Experts believe that this smartphone will be priced around $789, although, we cannot vouch for this figure right now.
Samsung could use the latest Android 5.0 L to power this device, if Google makes it officially available.
