  Samsung is expected to unveil a new phone called the Galaxy Alpha in the near future — a device that's smaller than the Galaxy S5 but is rumored to feature metal edges similar to Apple's iPhone. While the Korean smartphone maker hasn't officially shared any plans regarding its future products, new photos claim to show the Galaxy Alpha alongside the iPhone 5s. If the photos published by Twitter account @culeaks (via Phone Arena) turn out to be legitimate, the Galaxy Alpha may be thinner than Apple's flagship smartphone.

  Samsung is rumored to take the wraps off its Galaxy Alpha any day now. Last week, Sam Mobile reported that the phone could debut on August 4, although we haven't heard anything from Samsung yet. Other than its metal edges, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy phone is expected to come with a 4.7-inch screen, a powerful processor, and a 12-megapixel rear camera.

  The newly published photos are just few of many leaked images that have emerged in recent weeks. Earlier this week, pictures of the Galaxy Alpha in white appeared online.

  Leaked photos of a new Samsung smartphone led to speculation Thursday that the company may release its latest product as early as next week.  According to Sam Mobile, a blog that has leaked Samsung smartphones before, the Galaxy Alpha could be unveiled on August 4.

  The phone has a semi-metal design and a smaller screen than the Galaxy S5. It is said to fall under the mid-range smartphone space, not quite reaching the level of the high-end Galaxy S5.

  The news comes at the heels of Samsung posting its first year-over-year drop in net profit in nearly three years for the second quarter.  Samsung said in an earnings call it would launch two new smartphones in the next six months to protect its lead in mobiles.

The metal bodied Samsung Galaxy Alpha could be another limited edition smartphone for the company. 

  Samsung has had a few smartphones in recent years that have launched as a limited edition, particularly just for the Korean market. 

  A new report suggest the metal bodied, super high-end version of the Samsung Galaxy S5, known as the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, could be yet another exclusive device. 

  The main metal phone case manufacturers are located in Taiwan and are mostly controlled by Apple to make iPhone models. These include Castek Holdings and Foxconn among others. 

  There are also no metal casing manufacturers in Korea itself for Samsung to get in on the action, so the report states that the electronics giant is going to try China for the Galaxy Alpha body. 

  However, there’s a bit of a problem with that, because the prominent Chinese metal casing manufacturers can’t produce more than 1 million cases a month, even combined. 

  Due to that, there’s a high chance Samsung could be forced to make the Samsung Galaxy Alpha a limited edition handset just for the Korean market. 

  Samsung’s already done the same with the curved Samsung Galaxy Round for Korea and the Samsung Galaxy J for Japanese consumers. 

  However, Samsung could still try and launch the device worldwide, as it might see it as a good alternative for the flagship Galaxy S5, albeit for customers with a higher budget. 

  The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is expected to arrive in August with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display running on an Exynos 5 octa-core processor.

  Allegedly, the metal body will be just 6mm thick, making it an ultra slim smartphone. Hopefully it should come with a QHD resolution too to match the LG G3.
